Transfer to Dar es Salaam Airport and board your flight to Ruaha National Park. Here you will be met and transferred to Jongomero Camp where you will spend the next two nights.
Blending in beautifully with its surroundings, the camp is tucked below a dappled riverine canopy on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River, a natural pathway for animals in search of water. The eight well-appointed tented suites are built on raised wooden platforms, under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private instant veranda which overlooks the riverbed. (D)
Wake up to early morning tea or coffee in your sumptuous tent and look forward to another wonderful day exploring Ruaha National Park. Jongomero is situated far to the south of the park and is 70 kilometres from the nearest camp so essentially you have a park to yourself. Discover the wild, undulating, riverines and woodlands of Ruaha with experienced FGASA qualified guides by four seater 4WD vehicles or on game walks, which are an absolute must - navigate the dry river beds and listen to your expert guide tell you fascinating and often bizarre stories of the local flora, fauna, insects, birds and animals.
Ruaha has gained a reputation amongst safari connoisseurs for its unique ecological and geographical character, offering a contrasting safari experience to Selous with a crosssection of species and a climate that is unique to the country. (B)(L)(D)
Depart Jongomero after breakfast for your flight to Selous Game Reserve. Your flight takes you over awe-inspiring topography including baobab valleys, dramatic gorges and mountain ranges.
On arrival you will be met and transferred to Siwandu Camp where you will spend two unforgettable nights in this spectacular camp with delicious dining, cooling swimming pools and unforgettable tents with spacious verandas overlooking the lake. Take full advantage of viewing the abundant wildlife, either by boat, exploring the watery byways by weaving amongst the pods of hippo and crocodile lining the bank, or discover the landscape in opensided 4WD vehicles. You can also wake early and venture into Africa’s largest wilderness on foot, learn about the complex ecosystem that it embraces, encounter the thrills and be enthralled at the wonder of being at the heart of nature. Selous is Africa’s largest game reserve, the size of Switzerland, and one of the last great wilderness areas on the continent with a diverse range of animals. Expect to see plenty of plains game and the major African mammals, including elephant, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, lion, leopard as well as wild dog, as Selous is home to the world’s largest population of these endangered species. See Day 4 for today's itinerary. (B)(L)(D)
Soak up the last morning of bush luxury before boarding your flight back to Dar es Salaam and either follow on to the beach retreat of Ras Kutani, the sister camp to Siwandu and Jongomero, or hop on your connecting international flight. (B)
