Explore the 'Queen of the Arabian Sea', Kochi, Kerala's most important seaport and get a glimpse of the culture and history of the south from the Chinese pagoda-style houses, to the colonial churches and buildings; take a trip to the 'Venice of the East' and discover the backwaters near Alleppey on a traditional Kettavellum, or houseboat; and savour the delectable flavours of the south with a home-cooked meal.

Day 1
Upon arrival in Kochi you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 2
After breakfast enjoy a tour of Kochi, taking you to explore the colonial buildings, Chinese pagoda-style architecture, synagogues and mosques of the town, which dates backs centuries as a seaport and centre of trade. Visit Mattancherry, one of the oldest Jewish Synagogues in India, Paradesi Synagogue, which dates back to 1568. Proceed to the Dutch Palace, built in 1555, with its beautiful coronation hall and murals. Travel along the waterfront to see the traditional Chinese fishing nets lining the entrance to the harbour. Continue on to St. Francis Church, which was built by Portuguese priests in 1510, and was the original burial site of Vasco da Gama. (B)
Day 3
Following breakfast transfer by private vehicle to Alleppey, the Venice of the East. You'll embark on your traditional houseboat, or Kettavellum, and begin your trip along the serene backwaters of this area. This vast network of lagoons, lakes and rivers offer an opportunity to spot birdlife and wildlife along the shores, all while enjoying the tranquility of these waters. (B) (L) (D)
Day 4
After breakfast, disembark from your Kettavellum and take a walking tour of Alleppey, through the Gujarati quarter, the canal banks and the old market, accompanied by a local guide. Following your walking tour you'll visit a local home for lunch and a home-cooked meal to taste some of the authentic flavours of the region. This afternoon drive to Kumarakom where the rest of the day is at leisure. (B) (L)
Day 5
Your morning is at leisure or you have the option to visit the Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple, where devotees of the Serpent God worship. This afternoon proceen to Philipkutty's farm, where you can again sample authentic local cuisine with lunch on the banks of the Kerala backwaters, with the chance to visit the plantation area to learn more about local farming practices. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B) (L)
Day 6
Transfer to Kochi airport for your onward flight. (B)
