On arrival in Chennai, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Start your day at a performing arts centre where you can witness the students at prayer before classes start. Following this, Explore Chennai, visiting Fort St George, St Mary’s Church and Kapaleswar Temple. In the late afternoon head to the lively Marina Beach area. (B)
Depart for Mahaballipuram where you will stop en route at the impressive temple town of Kanchipuram, famous not only for the temples, but hand-woven silks. Continue on to Mahabllipuram where you will explore the sights including the temples and Krishna's Butterball. (B)
There is a strong French influence in Pondicherry, especially in the old boulevards lined with Mediterranean-style houses. Tour the town on arrival including a visit to a hand-made paper factory(B)
Drive to Thanjavur, known as the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu. Along the way stop at Chidambaram to admire the beautiful temples. Explore Thanjavur's sites on arrival. (B)
Drive to Trichy and tour the famous Rock Temple, a spectacular monument perched high on a rocky outcrop that towers over the old city. Continue on to Chettinad, famous for its fortress like homes and temple architecture. Participate in a cooking class at a private home at The Bangala. (B)(L)
A half day tour of Chettinad will include a visit to the village and a workshop where Athangudi tiles are made. Continue to Madurai. (B)
Start the day early and witness early morning trading, cows being milked in the street, locals doing their daily chores or sample some street food. It's the best time to witness local life. The remainder of the day is free until this evening when you head to Meenashki Temple to see a traditional prayer ceremony. (B)
Drive to spice country today. The afternoon is at leisure. (B)
Take an early morning boat ride on Lake Periyar for some wildlife spotting. Afterwards visit a spice plantation. (B)
Drive to Alleppey to board your houseboat. Float through calm waters and palm fringed canals, passing villages. See your traditional lunch being prepared. (B)(L)(D)
Disembark from your houseboat and drive onwards to Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala. This afternoon's tour includes the Chinese fishing nets, St Francis Church and the Dutch Palace. (B)
This morning explore Broadway and Ernakulum Market, the shopping hub of Kochi. The afternoon is free. (B)
