Unforgettable encounters in the Galapagos with Lindblad Expeditions
Going to Galápagos
is one of the best decisions a traveller can make. As one of the most important
natural history destinations on Earth, the first UNESCO World Heritage site, and Darwin’s laboratory, these islands are the magnet that draws all. With Lindblad Expeditions you’ll be able to have unforgettable encounters that happen nowhere else. With 50 years of experience, you are assured a remarkable experience onboard the National Geographic Endeavour II
or National Geographic Islander
The wildlife of Galápagos is legendary for its lack of an instinctive fear of humans. Sea lions loll on the beach next to you. Birds land on our camera lenses and stand in the middle of the trail ignoring us as you carefully walk around them. And you can contemplate or photograph giant tortoises to your heart’s content, they graze on, undisturbed. Being able to get so close to such rare and wild creatures is a privilege, enchanting, and unforgettable.
Due to its equatorial temperatures, Galápagos is a place where wildlife is always active. Migrating birds visit. Endemic birds court, mate, and raise their young. Giant tortoises move from the lowlands to the highlands, sea turtles bury their eggs on the beach or swim in the sea. Entertaining sea lions and blue-footed boobies are often present and delightful. No matter when you’re considering a Galápagos cruise, you can rest assured that the wildlife will be plentiful and active.
Galápagos is famous for its endemic wildlife—animals separated from their main population and adapted to their environment, eventually changing to become a new species. There are as many as 26 endemic species among the islands including Darwin’s finches, Galápagos giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and Galápagos penguins. This is the only place on earth you can see these animals in their natural habitat.
Like a floating safari camp, the ship will be your base for an unforgettable Galápagos travel expedition—immersing you in a movable feast, a panoramic experience of exploring the Galápagos Islands. The ship will feel like home in no time, as you discover all the nooks and crannies—and very welcoming, as the community camaraderie kindles. Crossing between islands most often takes place overnight to maximize time exploring. So you’ll wake to fresh vistas outside your cabin window, and daily discoveries.
There are many aspects to Galápagos and Lindblad Expeditions offer as many ways to enjoy the diversity of its land and undersea environments. Walks, at a photographer’s pace or faster. Hikes. Kayaking or paddleboarding. Snorkelling and scuba diving; swimming from a gorgeous wild beach animated by sea lions; or a slow scenic cruise in their glass-bottom boat (on National Geographic Endeavour II). Or a hammock and a good book on a canopied deck. You learn about each day’s opportunities in advance, so you can plan your day, or be spontaneous. And you’ll experience the pleasures of our hallmark ‘Recap’—where reliving the day’s events is almost as much fun as doing them.
National Geographic Islander and National Geographic Endeavour II both carry a full roster of tools to enhance your experience—a fleet of Zodiacs, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards; complete snorkelling gear, including shorty wetsuits, for all; plus, undersea video technology, a video microscope, underwater cameras, and more. They have enough equipment to get the entire guest community out on active daily adventures—you never have to wait around for your turn. Lindblad Expeditions’ generous staff-to-guest ratio enables them to offer choices—each and every day you can decide what activities you want to engage in; the activity level that suits you; and you’re free to join the naturalists whose personalities and interests most appeal to you. Each ship repositions during some days and travels by night on others—providing you with continuous fresh island vistas and diverse habitats to explore daily.
