Arrive into Anchorage, Alaska's biggest city. Located at the edge of the wilderness, Anchorage is the gateway to all that Alaska has to offer. Spend the day exploring the city at your leisure. Perhaps visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center, the Anchorage Museum or Earthquake Park.
This morning begins with a drive south along the scenic Turnagain Arm to the town of Seward. If time permits, a couple of points of interest worth visiting along the way include the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.
Today is yours to spend at leisure. There is much to see and do in Seward. Perhaps choose an optional cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park to view fjords, tidewater glaciers and marine wildlife, or join a guided hike to Exit Glacier. A visit to the Alaska SeaLife Center is also worth considering.
Depart Seward and drive north to the historic village of Talkeetna. Nestled near the base of North America’s tallest peak Denali, Talkeetna offers spectacular views of the Alaska Range. A turn-of-the-20th-century gold-mining centre, Talkeetna has retained much of its early Alaska flavor.
Leaving Talkeetna behind, it's a relatively short drive north to the Denali National Park Entrance where you’ll spend the night. The afternoon is free for optional activities - perhaps a rafting or flightseeing excursion, join a park ranger for a guided walk, or visit the sled dog kennels to meet the Park's Canine Rangers.
Join one of the guided bus tours to travel through the pristine wilderness of Denali National Park. Be on the lookout for wildlife such as bears, caribou and moose along the way, and make stops at scenic lookouts for beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Some final exploring in the Park region this morning before it's time to say farewell to Denali National Park as you return south to Anchorage. Be sure to check out some of Anchorages fantastic restaurants, bars or brew pubs to celebrate the end of your Alaskan journey.
As your adventure ends this morning, do some final shopping or sightseeing in Anchorage before returning your rental car at the airport for your onward flight.
