Venture further into the Peruvian Amazon to the Tambopata Research Centre in an area unrivalled in its access to pristine forests, wildlife and the world’s largest macaw saltlick.
Upon arrival from Lima or Cuzco, two hour trip by motorised canoe to Refugio Amazonas.
Morning visit to the 25 m canopy tower. Travel by motorised canoe to Tambopata. Afternoon hike on the Bamboo Trail, also the home of the howler and dusky titi monkeys.
Visit the world’s largest macaw clay lick. Afternoon hike and climb the observation tower for bird watching.
Return to Refugio Amazonas. After lunch, hike to Condenado Lake for lakeside wildlife viewing.
After breakfast, return to Puerto Maldonado.
