Star Clipper: Leeward Islands

Sailing from Phillipsburg, explore the lush, exotically beautiful island ports of Nevis or Saba before heading to Dominica. Glide through a steamy orchid-festooned rainforest during a fascinating boat ride up the winding Layrou River or hike to breathtaking Trafalgar Falls and its bubbling lake.

Itinerary

Enjoy the superb beaches, snorkelling and diving of Les Saintes plus Falmouth's colourful dockyards, marinas, old inns and venerable pubs before your final port - St Barts. Gustavia, its elegant little capital, is home to exquisite boutiques, excellent dining and beautiful beaches.

  • Day 1: Phillipsburg, St. Maarten

Philipsburg, built on a sand bar and situated around a central square, is the old Dutch capital and still preserves some attractive colonial architecture. Take the opportunity to explore before boarding your yacht. D

  • Day 2: Nevis, Leeward Islands (or Saba, weather dependent)

Upon landing at Charleston in Nevis, tour the island which is dotted with old sugar plantations, some of them now turned into charming inns, many with interesting histories. B L D

  • Day 3: Dominica, Windward Islands

The 290 square mile island of Dominica lies between Martinique and Guadeloupe in the eastern Caribbean and is the largest and most mountainous of the English speaking Windward Islands. B L D

  • Day 4: Terre de Haut, Iles des Saintes

Just 10 kilometres off the coast of Guadeloupe are a series of islands called Ile des Saints. The most popular of these islands is Terre de Haut which is only 5 kilometres long and 2 kilometres wide. Discover the clear, turquoise waters and peaceful streets of this charming island. B L D

  • Day 5: Grande Anse, Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe looks like a butterfly from the air. Its giant wings are actually two islands, separated by the Rivière Salée, a natural salt water channel. Basse Terre, the southern or leeward part of Guadeloupe, is lush and rugged, dominated by La Soufrière. A stream of boiling water gushes from the top of the 4,800- ft. mountain, reminding you that this volcano is not dormant, but very much alive. B L D

  • Day 6: Falmouth, Antigua

Whatever rugged Antigua may lack in tropical scenery the island more than makes up for with what are some of the best watersports’ conditions found anywhere in the Caribbean, and 365 beaches ('one for each day of the vear' say the Antiguans) to enjoy! For many, too, the great bay of stunning English Harbour and historic Nelson's Dockyard (Britain's West Indies naval base now restored to its 18th century prime) will prove a magnet. B L D

  • Day 7: Gustavia, St. Barts

The French chic, brightly painted houses and glittering yacht harbour of charming Gustavia reveal the style and sophistication of tiny St. Barthelemy ('St. Barths'), a miniature Caribbean Cote d'Azur just eight miles square. Enjoy some duty-free shopping in its smart boutiques, dine in one of the countless gourmet bistros and restaurants - and try to visit one of the 14 idyillic beaches. B L D

  • Day 8: Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Return to Philipsburg and disembark. B
