The canal is one of the most important landmarks of Greece and separates the Peloponnesian peninsula from the Greek mainland. Continue onto the impressive ancient citadel of Mycenae. Spend time exploring the area. Conclude the day with an overnight stay in Tolo, a picturesque village near Nafplion.
Spend the morning exploring Nafplion, the first capital of Greece and a port city since the Bronze Age. Visit the towering bulk of the Palamidi Fortress and wander through the streets of the old town. Continue your road journey with a scenic drive through central Peloponnese to Olympia.
Tour the ancient sites of Olympia before driving to Patras and via “The Bridge” to Ioannina. Located on the shores of the charming Lake Pamvotis, the city is very impressive with its old quarter interspersed with narrow lanes and architectural wonders dating back to Byzantine and Ottoman times.
Continue to the small town of Kalambaka, the gateway to Meteora. The town is located at the foot of the majestic grey rocks. See the impressive scenery and monasteries perched atop huge rocks which were built between the 14th century AD to 16th century AD. Take the time to visit as many of the monasteries as you can. Make sure to plan your visit.
Continue the drive to Delphi. One of the most important archaeological sites of Greece, it was regarded as the centre of the world and is located on the slopes of Mt Parnassos, overlooking the Gulf of Corinth.
You have a full day tour to explore the site and museum. Highlights of the archaeological site include the Temple of Apollo, the Tholos, the theatre, the stadium, and the treasuries of the Athenians and the Syphnias.
