Budapest & Rural Hungary
Old World charm and beauty are the key notes for romantic Budapest; we explore both sides of the city and there's a chance to take a boat trip on the Danube. We then drive north to the village of Holloko. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it exudes folklore and rural culture at their most authentic. At Matrahaza we have the chance to climb Hungary's highest peak, Mt Kekes (1014m), for superb views of the surrounding countryside.

The High Tatras & Prague
Crossing into Slovakia we head north into the High Tatras. From our base in Stary Smokovec we can enjoy some excellent and well-marked walks through silent valleys and past rugged cliffs and emerald lakes. There are choices for all abilities, as well as options for revitalising your system - perhaps with a gypsy Koliba meal! We take a train to Prague; the Czech capital is regarded by many as the unspoilt jewel in Europe's historic crown. As well as visiting all the major sights of the Old Town and Hradcany (the Castle of the Bohemian Kings), we have time to simply soak up the atmosphere of a unique community where every street, ghetto, inn or theatre tells a story.

• Day 1:

  Arrive Budapest.

• Day 2:

  Walking tour; optional Danube cruise and thermal baths.

• Day 3 & 4:

  Drive to Eger via Holloko, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At Matrahaza option to climb Hungary's highest peak, Mt Kekes (1014m).

• Day 5 - 7:

  Cross into Slovakia and head north into the High Tatras. From our base in Stary Smokovec, you can enjoy walks through valleys and past rugged cliffs and emerald lakes. On the last night take the train to Prague.

• Day 8 & 9:

  In Prague; city tour.

• Day 10:

  Depart Prague.
