Mekong Immersion: Sa Dec & Beyond

Itinerary

• Day 1: Saigon – Sadec – Cai Be

  3.5 hours from Saigon is Sa Dec, a charming, authentic Mekong Delta town. On arrival visit the charming Kien An Cung Pagoda before having lunch in the former home of Huynh Thuy Le.
  
  After lunch, board a boat for the cruise to Cai Be, en-route visiting a flower garden and floating houses. Make a stop at a traditional mat making workshop. Reach the river town of Vinh Long; here visit one of the biggest brick factories in the Mekong Delta, then it’s back on the boat to Cai Be. Your resting place is The Mekong Lodge. (L)(D)

• Day 2: Cai Be – Saigon

  Take a sunrise boat cruise to Cai Be floating market and then continue to an area of the Mekong untouched by tourism. Here take a leisurely seven km cycling trip along shady backroads over tiny canals stopping at some traditional workshops which make turmeric spring roll paper and roof thatching made from the water palm tree. Mid morning arrive at a family run orchard. The owner will share with you stories from his life and take you to sample some fresh fruits.
  
  Continue cycling to a stunning 100-year old house for an authentic Mekong lunch. Bid farewell to the family, before returning to Saigon. (B)(L)
