Itinerary

  • Day 1: Saigon – Vung Liem

    Leave bustling Saigon for Cai Be. Board your boat for a cruise of Cai Be floating market and afterwards continue to a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. After a specialty Mekong lunch, cruise to Vinh Long where you are met for the transfer to Vung Liem. Cross the Mekong by local ferry before arriving at your homestay located on Long Island. Spend time with your homestay family learning to make banh xeo - a specilaty savoury pancake of the region, and learn of the culture and history of the area. L, D.

  • Day 2: Vung Liem – Saigon

    Start exploring the island by bicycle (or on foot) through the village to sedge fields; here see the cutting and weaving of this grass. Enroute visit a shrine dedicated to Thoai Ngoc Hau who was one of the founders of the area. At the end of the morning return to the house for lunch before taking the ferry back to Vung Liem and on to Vinh Lonh's local market before the return journey to Saigon. B, L.
