Itinerary

  • Day 1: Hanoi

    On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

  • Day 2: Ninh Binh & Hoa Lu

    Depart for the two-hour drive to Vietnam’s first capital, Hoa Lu. Visit the temples dedicated to Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang and Emperor Le Dai Hanh. Continue to Tam Coc Town for a Vietnamese lunch and then board your private sampan for a cruise in Trang An. The adventurous can climb up to Bich Dong Pagoda before return to Hanoi in time for a traditional water puppets performance. (B)(L)

  • Day 3: Hanoi - Lao Cai

    Bat Trang Pottery Village is famous for its blue and white pottery. Tour the village by buffalo cart then into a workshop where pottery can be hand painted to any design. Children love this creative activity! After lunch, take a tour of the city’s Ethnology Museum and afterwards paddle boat on Truc Bach Lake. Finish the day tasting some of Hanoi’s best homemade ice cream. This evening transfer to the train station for the overnight trip to Lao Cai. (B)

  • Day 4: Lao Cai – Sapa

    On arrival in the border town of Lao Cai, transfer to the former hill station of Sapa – home to indigo-clad Hmong and the scarlet hues of the turbans worn by the Red Dao. Take a morning walking tour of Sapa to the busy market, and then a light trek to discover Sapa's quaint hill tribe villages. (B)(L)

  • Day 5: Sapa – Lao Cai – Hanoi

    Have breakfast before driving to visit a local market which offers a variety of local products such as pot-bellied pigs, cows and buffalo. Continue with a short walk to a hill tribe village and have the opportunity to visit some local homes. Return to Lao Cai and freshen up before overnight train back to Hanoi. (B)(L)

  • Day 6: Hanoi – Halong Bay

    Freshen up in Hanoi before departure for Halong Bay where you will board your boat to cruise the magnificent islets and rock formations of the bay. As the sun sets enjoy a seafood dinner on-board. (B)(L)(D)

  • Day 7: Halong Bay – Hoi An

    Sail back to Halong city where a transfer will meet you and take you to Hanoi Airport. Enroute visit Thanh Chuong Palace, the home and studio of Thanh Chuong who is one of the most celebrated painters in Vietnam today. On arrival in Danang transfer to Hoi An. (B)

  • Day 8: Hoi An

    This morning take a cyclo tour of the ancient town centre to visit former merchants’ houses, the 400 year-old Japanese Bridge, a Chinese communal hall and the colourful market. (B)

  • Day 9: Hoi An - Hue

    Have the morning at leisure before leaving Hoi An for Hue. Drive through Danang and visit the Cham Museum before climbing over the Hai Van Pass and dropping down to the wonderfully photogenic fishing village of Lang Co and on to Hue. (B)

  • Day 10: Hue

    Start your day at the Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. From here take a cyclo through Dai Noi ‘Old City’ to Tinh Tam Lake where the Emperors used to come to relax. In the afternoon see the tombs of Minh Mang and Khai Dinh. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. (B)

  • Day 11: Hue – Saigon

    On arrival in Saigon drive 1.5hrs to Cu Chi through magnificent rural scenery. The famous Cu Chi Tunnels consist of an underground tunnel network (children can enter the tunnels). Located nearby is the Wildlife at Risk (WAR) rescue centre where you’ll be taken on a guided tour and have the chance to see some of the animals. Return to Saigon and indulge the kids with a special musical performance in Truc Mai House. At the end of the performance participation is welcome to try and master these ingenious, handmade instruments. (B)

  • Day 12: Mekong Delta

    Drive to the delta town of Cai Be, home to a colourful floating market. On arrival board the boat for a cruise of the market and afterwards visit a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Return to the boat and cruise to Dong Hoa Hiep Island and then by road back to Saigon.(B)(L)

  • Day 13: Saigon

    Time at leisure until your departure flight. (B)
