Temples of Isaan

This four day tour offers an interesting balance of temple touring, village and handicraft encounters, in a less-visited region of Thailand. Highlights include the ancient city of Phimai, Prasat Museum, a visit to the pottery village of Daan Kwian and Phanom Rung Historical Park.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Bangkok – Phimai – Korat

    Drive from Bangkok via Saraburi to Nakhon Ratchasima Province stopping en-route to visit Wat Phra Phutthabat, one of the most beautiful religious sites in Thailand. At the ancient city of Phimai, visit Prasat Hin Phimai, the largest sandstone Khmer temple complex in Thailand. The Sanctuary has been magnificently preserved. Also visit Prasat Museum and Prasat Hin Phanom Wan, a smaller but also impressive Khmer monument. L.

  • Day 2: Korat – Buriram – Surin

    After breakfast, visit the pottery village of Daan Kwian before continuing to Phanom Rung Historical Park. After lunch drive to Surin and visit Baan Tasawang and witness the magnificence of ancient silk weaving processes. Continue to “Elephant Village” to meet up close these lovely creatures and the skilled mahouts. B, L.

  • Day 3: Surin – Ubon Ratchathani

    Start the morning at Ban Khwao Sinarin – Silverware and Silk Villages famous for the unique local style designed silk and silver beads. En-route to Ubon Ratchathani, stop at Sikhoraphum Sanctuary to see a Khmer temple. On arrival in Ubon Ratchathani visit the local temples including Wat Thung Sri Muang. Also see the National Museum.   • Day 4: Chiang Ubon Ratchathani

    Transfer to the airport or be dropped at the border for travel to Laos. B.
