This 18 day journey travelling from Bangkok takes in the very best South East Asia has to offer, from a plethora of ruins to leisurely cruises and the opportunity to meet so many friendly local faces. Highlights include Sukhothai Historical Park in Thailand, the markets and temples of Chiang Mai, a cooking class in Luang Prabang, Pak Ou Caves in Laos & Hanoi and Halong Bay.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Bangkok

    Arrive in Bangkok and transfer to hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure.

  • Day 2: Bangkok

    Begin your sightseeing tour at the Grand Palace and then visit Wat Po, the home of Thai massage and the Reclining Buddha. This afternoon stroll through Chinatown, visit The Bangkok Folk Museum and then hop on a long tail boat for a ride along the bustling Chao Phraya River.

  • Day 3: Bangkok – Sukhothai

    After breakfast, transfer to airport for your flight to Sukhothai, containing almost 200 ruined chedis in remarkable condition. See the main sites before checking into your hotel.

  • Day 4: Sukhothai – Lampang – Chiang Mai

    Drive north to Si Satchanalai Historical Park home to 134 ruined monuments. Vist the main sites of the park before departure to Chiang Mai via Lampang.

  • Day 5: Chiang Mai

    Depart to a local farmhouse in Mae Rim. Board a long-tail boat and cruise along the rural Mae Ping River seeing traditional wooden houses and modern residences. Disembark, and a short walk takes you to Waroros fresh food market. From the market you take a trishaw to Wat Phra Singh. In the afternoon, explore ancient Chiang Mai. After visiting Wat Suan Dok, continue to Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, where you'll receive a private blessing ceremony and witness the magical evening chanting of the monks.

  • Day 6: Chiang Mai – Luang Prabang

    Time at leisure until transfer to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang.

  • Day 7: Luang Prabang

    Your city tour by tuk tuk begins with a visit to the National Museum, Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-relief, Wat Sensoukarahm and finally the beautiful Wat Xieng Thong. In the afternoon tour by electric powered bike to the Traditional Art and Ethnology Centre, and the Phousi Market and finish with a cooking class, led by Chef Mr. Chantanong from The Residence Phou Vao. Of course sample your efforts afterwards.

  • Day 8: Pak Ou Caves

    For early risers, there is a very special dawn visit to watch the monks collecting the alms. After breakfast, board a river boat for a leisurely cruise up the Mekong to Pak Ou Caves. Moor for lunch at the foot of beautiful limestone cliffs, before returning to Luang Prabang. This afternoon experience a traditional Lao ceremony – The Baci. Afterwards, climb the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phousi then stop by the evening hill tribe market before dinner.

  • Day 9: Luang Prabang – Hanoi

    En-route to the airport for your flight to Hanoi, visit Xang Khong village and learn about local textiles. Fly to Hanoi where you will be transferred to your hotel.

  • Day 10: Halong Bay Cruise

    Depart Hanoi for Halong Bay where you will board your traditional junk. Cruise through incredible rock formations, and set anchor for the night as the sun sets over the bay.

  • Day 11: Halong Bay – Hue

    Weave through strange-shaped limestone rock formations back to the pier for the return transfer to Hanoi. Take a short city tour and in the late afternoon fly to Hue.

  • Day 12: Hue

    Start the day’s touring at the Imperial Citadel. From here take a cyclo through Dai Noi ‘Old City’, then continue to Thien Mu Pagoda. In the afternoon see the tomb of the former emperor Minh Mang, Khai Dinh’s Tomb and then end the day at the vibrant Dong Ba Market.

  • Day 13: Hue – Hoi An

    Take the scenic route through the fishing village of Lang Co and over the Hai Van Pass to Danang where you'll visit the Cham Museum. Continue to Hoi An and stroll the ancient centre on a walking tour.

  • Day 14: Hoi An

    At leisure to explore Hoi An.

  • Day 15: Hoi An – Saigon

    Fly to Saigon and on arrival take a tour of the vibrant city.

  • Day 16: Saigon – Siem Reap

    The morning is at leisure before the flight to Siem Reap. Begin temple touring of the magnificent complex at Angkor Wat this afternoon, with a visit of the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple, The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King.

  • Day 17: Siem Reap

    Embark on an interesting boat trip on the Tonlé Sap Lake, where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the lake. Return to Siem Reap for some rest and then tour the famous Angkor Wat by local tuk tuk. Experience an incredible sunset at the temples before return to the hotel.

  • Day 18: Siem Reap

    Explore the temples of the Small Circuit, including the illustrious Ta Prohm. Transfer to the airport this afternoon.
