River Kwai Private Tour

Kanchanaburi is a small town west of Bangkok with a noted place in history as during WWII, the Japanese ordered prisoners of war to build the now famous, Bridge on the River Kwai. A memorial and the JEATH Museum are in the vicinity, reminders of the casualties of war.

Itinerary

  • Day 1:Bangkok – River Kwai

    Early this morning, drive south from Bangkok to the garden province of Samut Songhkhram in the Mae Klong River delta area. Visit a unique country market along the railway tracks where a variety of goods are sold. Then drive further to Kanchanaburi where you will find the famous bridge on the River Kwai, built by Allied prisoners of war during World War II. Visit the war cemetery, the JEATH War Museum and the Railway Museum. After lunch at a local restaurant, take a short train ride along the infamous ‘death railway’ through Kwai Noi gorge. Visit an elephant camp where you can experience an elephant ride through the jungle and alongside the Kwai Yai River. Afterwards, travel by bamboo raft along the river’s gently flowing waters before heading to your hotel. L.

  • Day 2: River Kwai – Bangkok

    After breakfast, take a one hour drive to the northwestern part of the city. Visit the Hellfire Pass Museum before embarking on a trek through the nearby canyon. The walk is along the Memorial Walking Trail which looks out to Myanmar. A free audio guide is provided to help create the scene and to link the context and location with real life experiences narrated by POW’s while working on the line. Return to Bangkok arriving early evening. B.
