Itinerary

• Day 1: Yangon – Sittwe

  Transfer to the airport in Yangon for your flight to Sittwe where you will embark on an afternoon of leisurely sightseeing including Rakhine State Cultural Museum. Then you can walk along the strand road where you will see dock yards and other river activities before transferring to a viewpoint for the sunset over Bay of Bengal. L, D.

• Day 2: Sittwe – Mrauk U

  An early start to visit Sittwe’s fish market with scenes of fisherman loading up their fresh catch from the night before. Then you will be transferred to Sittwe jetty and board a private boat to Mrauk U for the 5-6 hour upstream journey on the Kaladan River. Lunch will be served on board. Mrauk U was the capital in the 15th century and at its peak it was one of the richest cities in all of Asia. Arriving around midday your visit includes Koethaung Temple, the Pitakataik Library, Laungbanpyauk Pagoda, Yadana Mannaung and Sakaya Mannaung Pagodas. These temples and pagodas are in a lowlying area surrounded by hills and are some of the most important religious shrines of the medieval Mrauk U period. (B, L, D)

• Day 3: Mrauk U

  Awake early to enjoy the sunrise over the misty hills of Mrauk U. Return to your hotel for breakfast and then continue exploring Mrauk U. Begin with a visit to the local market and the ruins of the Royal Palace. Then tour the town’s Archaeological Museum. After lunch, visit Shitthaung Temple by horse and cart, Mrauk U's most important monument followed by Ratanabon Pagoda. (B,L,D)

• Day 4: Mrauk U – Sittwe – Yangon

  After an early breakfast, board a chartered local boat for the return trip to Sittwe. Along the way, you will have an opportunity to enjoy the riverine lifestyle of local people in Rakhine State. After lunch transfer to Sittwe Airport for your flight to Yangon.(B, L)
