This 9-day group tour offers a chance for travellers to experience all the highlights of Myanmar. Temples, pagodas, hill tribe villages, Buddhas, markets, monasteries, traditional architecture, pristine lakes, relaxing rivers and friendly inquisitive people - Myanmar has it all.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Yangon

    After arrival, venture downtown to explore the fabulous mix of architecture and sites of the city. You’ll also pass by the glittering Sule Paya, Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument and stop for a drink at a local teashop.

  • Day 2: Yangon – Mandalay

    A morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Mandalay. On arrival cross the Irrawaddy River to Sagaing, home to 3,000 monks. Also visit Sagaing’s local market and stop at a small pottery village. Then continue to Ava, where a ferry will take you across the river to where your horse and carriage await. Visit the old wooden Bagaya Monastery and the remains of the Royal Palace and Fort. Return toward the city and stop at Amarapura to visit a silk weaving workshop, Mahagandayon monastery, and the 200 year-old U Bein Bridge. B, L.

  • Day 3: Mandalay – Bagan

    Awake very early this morning (0400) and transfer to Mahamuni Pagoda to witness the ritualistic washing of the Buddha’s face. Afterwards set off on an exploration of Mandalay beginning at Mandalay Hill, Kuthodaw Pagoda, home to ‘the world’s largest book’. There is also the opportunity to observe the production of wood carvings, kalaga tapestries, and gold-leaf. Mid afternoon, transfer to the airport for the flight to Bagan. B.

    Day 4: Bagan

    The journey begins at Thagyar Pone Temple, with spectacular views over the surrounding plains, followed by Ananda Temple. Afterwards visit Myinkaba Village and a series of other interesting temple sites. Following this learn more of the local culture with a visit to a lacquer and wood workshop. After a rest, take a horse and cart ride to watch the sunset over the plains. B.

  • Day 5: Bagan

    Take a break from temple touring with a morning visit around Bagan’s local villages and markets and learn interesting processes such as how the local plum jam is made. In the afternoon, board a river boat and set off up the Irrawaddy River to visit a cliff-side temple, stopping at Sae Lan village for a short walk. Cruise back to Bagan. (B)

  • Day 6: Bagan – Heho – Inle Lake

    Transfer to the airport for the flight to Heho. From Heho, a scenic one-hour drive leads to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway village to Inle Lake. Upon reaching the lake, board a private boat passing stilted villages inhabited by the local Intha people. Visit Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, then continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, containing five sacred Buddha images covered in gold leaf. Take time to explore the local crafts of the area. B.

  • Day 7: Inle Lake

    Visit the morning market then head to the village of In Dein where you can explore the area on foot. B.

  • Day 8: Inle Lake – Yangon

    Transfer to Heho airport for the flight to Yangon. On arrival enjoy the sights of Yangon including a visit the most revered Buddhist temple, Shwedagon Pagoda. B.

  • Day 9: Yangon

    At leisure until transfer to the airport.
