On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Siem Reap is the base for exploring the fabled temples of Angkor, the ancient capital of the Khmer empire. After a short relaxing break, you will visit the famous Angkor Wat by local tuk tuk. During sunset time, Angkor Wat is less visited, and the Apsaras will shine in the most beautiful light. Return to your hotel, where you can enjoy the evening at leisure.
After breakfast, visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom. From here, continue to Bayon Temple, well-known for its 54 towers with enigmatic faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also must-visits. Then explore the highlights of the Small Circuit, visiting Ta Prohm, overgrown by jungle trees and vines, Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery, and Srah Srang, also known as the “pool of ablutions”. This afternoon, embark on an interesting boat trip on Tonlé Sap Lake, where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the lake.(B)
Spend the morning at leisure until your transfer to the airport for a flight to Myanmar. You will be assisted in Yangon for transfer to the domestic check-in for your flight to Bagan. From the 11th to 13th centuries, when Bagan was the capital of Myanmar, the rulers constructed thousands of huge stupas and temples many of which are still standing today on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Enjoy Bagan at your own pace this evening. (B)
Your journey begins with a visit to Tayokye Pyay, an elevated temple from where you will have a panoramic view of the magnificent plains of Bagan. Continue to the colourful Nyaung Oo Market and then the golden stupa of Shwezigon Pagoda for an introduction in to Bagan’s rich history. Continue to nearby Wetkyi-In Gubyaukgyi, a cave temple with exquisite mural paintings and the elegant Htilominlo Temple noted for its fine plaster carvings. This afternoon visit a traditional lacquer ware workshop and then on to Ananda Temple, an architectural masterpiece and one of Bagan’s most beautiful temples. From here, travel by horse cart for more temple touring before an unforgettable sunset over the plains from the upper terrace of one of the temples. (B)
Transfer to the airport for a flight to Heho, where a scenic one-hour drive leads to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway village to Inle Lake. Along the way, stop at the wooden Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery which features beautiful carvings. Upon reaching the edges of the lake, board a private motorboat, passing villages built on stilts over the lake, and observing the leg-rowing fishermen. Visit Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery and its unique ‘jumping cats’ who jump through hoops in the air! Continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary. Explore the local crafts of Inle Lake with a stop at the weaving village of Inpawkhone and a cheroot factory, where the typical Burmese cigars are made by hand. (B)
After breakfast, visit the lake’s morning market and then transfer to Heho Airport for the flight to Yangon. Late this afternoon, visit Shwedagon Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. The central stupa is 90 metres tall and gilded with gold leaf. As the sun begins to set enjoy the breathtaking views of the Pagoda and surrounding skyline before transferring back to your hotel.(B)
