Itinerary

• Meals are served in raised thatched enclosures amidst the paddies, on floor mats and cushions gathered at low tables laid with banana leaves. Enjoy authentic Laos cuisine made with the freshest locally grown produce, aiming to keep within the concept of being in tune with the environment and surroundings.

• The lodge takes it name from the area's indigenous clan, the Kamu, whose fascinating lifestyle can be shared by guests at the lodge who are invited not just to observe, but also participate in the local culture. Under the expert, and often highly amused, eye of the Kamu villagers, visitors can try their hand at traditional fishing, rice farming, weaving and even panning for gold in the rich silt of the Mekong.

• Day 1: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou – Kamu Lodge

  Depart from Kamu Lodge pier to embark on a cruise up the Mekong River. Along the way stop at the Pak Ou Caves. Locally referred to as Tam Ting, these two caves are carved out of towering limestone cliffs and contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues. Continue upriver for another hour to reach the Kamu Lodge - featuring 20 private thatch roofs, canvas tents decorated with bamboo and wooden furniture to harmoniously blend with surrounding nature. This afternoon choose from variety of different activities such as rice planting, gold panning, traditional fishing techniques in the Mekong or local village encounters. (L)(D)

• Day 2: Kamu Lodge – Luang Prabang

  The morning is at your leisure before return by boat to Luang Prabang. (B)
