Highlights of Laos

The perfect introduction to the allure of Laos with it’s quaint buildings, holy temples and friendly locals. Take in one of the country’s highlights, Luang Prabang, and explore the capital city, Vientiane.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Vientiane

    On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Patuxay monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe, followed by That Luang, the holiest site in Laos.

  • Day 2: Vientiane – Luang Prabang

    Discover the hidden charms of Vientiane, beginning at the serene Wat Sisaket. Continue on to the nearby Wat Phra Keo displaying a collection of both Lao and Khmer works of art. Also nearby, is the Presidential Palace. Stop at Wat Simuang en-route to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang, where on arrival, ascend the 328 steps to Mt Phousi, and bargain for wares at the colourful night market. (B)

  • Day 3: Luang Prabang

    After breakfast, visit the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum, where you will explore the history of Laos. Continue on foot a series of important temples of the city. This afternoon, visit Wat Visoun, the holiest temple of the city, and then on to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre, a museum dedicated to exploring the rich diversity of Laos’ ethnic minorities. End the day with sunset views of the city from Wat Chompet on the opposite side of the Mekong. (B)

  • Day 4: Luang Prabang

    For early risers, there is a very special dawn visit to watch the monks collecting the alms. After breakfast, venture to the refreshing waters of the Kuang Si Waterfalls. In the late afternoon learn the secrets behind the delicious Lao cuisine with a cooking class at Tamnak Laos run by one of Luang Prabangs most famous restaurants. The expert chefs will demonstrate how to prepare four authentic Lao dishes; you then taste them and choose three to cook yourself. As a reward for your hard work, sit down to a delicious meal of the dishes you have helped create. (B)(D)

  • Day 5: Luang Prabang – Kamu Lodge

    Cruise up the Mekong River to the Kamu Lodge stopping en-route at Pak Ou Caves. The Kamu Lodge features 20 private canvas tents, with private attached bathrooms. This afternoon, choose from a variety of different activities such as rice planting and harvesting in surrounding rice fields, gold panning, forest walks, trekking or fishing. (B)(L)(D)

  • Day 5: Kamu Lodge – Luang Prabang

    The morning is free before the return boat trip to Luang Prabang where your tour ends. (B)
