Adventure World NZ
An astounding journey experiencing the real essence of Cambodia and the truly must-see sights. Get to grips with the Temples of Angkor, the French colonial past of Phnom Penh and uncover local village activities.
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight, you will be treated to a delicious Khmer welcome dinner at Romdeng, a lovely charity restaurant where former street children are taught the principles of hospitality. (B)
Set out to discover the most remarkable sights of Phnom Penh by cyclo. First, head to the Royal Palace, dating back to 1866. Continue to the National Museum and finish off the day at the Russian Market to enjoy a typical Cambodian market scene. (B)
Mid-morning, you will drive overland to Siem Reap, the gateway to the majestic temples of Angkor. Get a first glimpse of Angkor at the early temples of the Roluos Group, consisting of three main temples: Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko. Enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside on a cow cart ride to Roluos Pagoda, where Buddhist monks will celebrate a private blessing ceremony for you – a very memorable experience. (B)
Visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom, entering through the South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with elephants and four giant faces. From here, continue to Bayon Temple, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Return to Siem Reap for a break before an afternoon boat trip on the Tonlé Sap Lake, where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the lake. Visit Kampong Phluck, a village where you will see houses on stilts that are submerged when Tonlé Sap Lake extends. On the way, you will pass floating houses and impressive flooded forests, portraying life on the water. (B)
Travel to the countryside to see the “gem” of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srey, the best preserved temple in Cambodia. On the way back to Siem Reap, stop at the Landmine Museum which promotes mine awareness and serves as a rescue centre for a number of landmine amputee children. Later today, depart on a sightseeing tour of the famous Angkor Wat. (B)
Enjoy the day at your leisure for some relaxation at your hotel or for some personal shopping on Siem Reap’s interesting markets. You may visit Artisans d’Angkor, established in 1992 in order to support Cambodian arts and crafts, and to help young people find work in their local villages by continuing the practice of traditional arts. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight. (B)
