Itinerary

• Day 1: Muscat – Nizwa – Wahiba Sands

  Early pick up from your hotel in Muscat for your journey to Wahiba Sands. Enroute stop at Nizwa, birthplace of Islam in Oman. Visit the Round Tower Fort, built in the 17th century and its Souq. The Souq, is renowned for its Friday cattle auction, intricately hand-carved “Khanjars” (daggers) and ornamental silver jewellery. Continue to Wahiba Sands. A vast mass of undulating red and white sea of sand and dunes rising up to 200m. Overnight at Safari Desert Camp. D.

• Day 2: Wahiba Sands – Hijj – Khaluf

  After breakfast, embark on a desert crossing. Enroute to Hijj, which lies near the coast, traverse the desert where only clumps of acacia tree and herds of gazelle can be spotted on the isolated route. Occasionally Bedouin settlements can be spotted. After a picnic lunch, continue the journey and soon the sand dunes meet the sea. On the coast, flamingoes can be spotted. Camp will be set up at Khaluf which is a beautiful unspoilt beach. The single camp consist of dome tents with sleeping bags. Enjoy a hot meal before retiring for the night. B, L, D.

• Day 3: Khaluf – Shanaa – Masirah

  Breakfast at the campsite. Continue to Shanaa, where you will board the ferry to Masirah. The ferry crossing is largely dependent on the tides. Masirah Island is home to abundant bird life and has one of the best shell beaches. Enjoy exploring the island during the day. Overnight at the Swiss Belhotel Resort. B.

• Day 4: Masirah

  Full day to continue exploring Masirah. B..

• Day 5: Masirah – Shanaa – Ras Al Hadd

  Return to Shanaa by ferry and continue by road along the coast to Ras Al Hadd. Pass by some quaint fi shing villages and enjoy driving over the awe inspiring dunes hugging the spectacular coastline. This evening experience the sight of turtles coming in from the sea to lay scores of eggs, a very rare spectacle. This evening’s accommodation will be in a traditional Omani style hut. B.

• Day 6: Ras Al Hadd – Sur – Wadi Shab – Muscat

  Proceed to the coastal town of Sur. Visit the dhow building yar and Sineslah Fort. Continue to Muscat via the coastal road enjoying enroute visits to the picturesque Wadi Shab where you can enjoy a walk through the lush green banana plantations. Stop at Fins Beach and the Bimah Sinkhole before arriving in Muscat. B.
