Adventure World NZ
The Sultanate of Oman is a country of spectacular mountain ranges and wadis, shifting sand dunes and enchanting fortresses. For centuries, it has inspired travellers, lured by its beauty, diversity and cultural heritage.
Depart for Nizwa, stopping en-route at the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz. Enjoy a walk through the oasis and date plantations before continuing on to Jabrin, the finest of Oman’s castles. Built in the late 17th century, this amazing structure became an important seat of Omani learning. Visit Misfah, a mountain village with stone dwellings and Wadi Nakher located in the depth of Oman’s deepest canyon. From the peak of Jebel Shams observe spectacular views of the region. Nizwa, capital of the interior, is the birthplace of Islam in the Sultanate. Visit Nizwa Souk known for its antiquities, pottery and silver jewellery. L.
This morning head for the Wahiba Sands, a vast mass of undulating copper dunes rising up to 200 m. The ever changing patterns of the dunes are a photographer’s delight. Visit a Bedouin house in the wilderness and learn about nomadic tribes in Oman. In stark contrast to the desert is Wadi Bani Khalid with clear deep blue water. Finally head out to the seaside town of Sur, famous for its dhowbuildingskills. B, L.
Stop at the fish jetty, dhow factory and historical Sineslah Fort. The ruins of Bibi Miriam’s Tomb can be seen on the coastal road to Muscat via Wadi Arbayeen, a lush green wadi with deep pools of water, surrounded by dense plantations. At the spectacular Fins Beach take the chance to cool off with a swim. The next stop is the Bimah Sinkhole, a limestone crater with blue-green water at the bottom, and then the attractive fishing village of Quriyat and the mango plantations at Hail Al Ghaf. The tour concludes in Muscat. B, L.
