Meals in China represent more than just food on a plate – it is the cornerstone of all social interaction. The cuisine is divided into different regions and flavours and this tour offers an opportunity to sample the diversity of tastes throughout.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Beijing

    On arrival transfer to your hotel.

  • Day 2: Beijing

    Depart today for the enchanting Great Wall of China, a must-see on any visit to the Middle Kingdom. Return via the ancient Ming Tombs and then head to Gaobeidian Village where you will meet a local family and learn how to make dumplings in their home.  

  • Day 3: Beijing – Pingyao

    Explore the capital’s key attractions this morning, including vast Tiananmen Square and the fine detail of the Forbidden City. Enjoy a delicious Mongolian Hot Pot lunch at the famed Donglaishun Restaurant. In the afternoon, depart by train to Taiyuan, entry point to the best-preserved ancient city in China, Pingyao.   • Day 4: Pingyao – Xian

    Take in the ancient sites of the old town of Pingyao before a local lunch with traditional folk performance. Daxitai Restaurant is famous for its great variety of flour dishes. Enjoy some free time in the afternoon before an evening soft berth sleeper train to Xian. B L D   

  • Day 5: Xian

    Arrive into Xian and immerse yourself in the local cuisine at the Shaanxi Cooking School. After feasting on your own fare, head to the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warriors where thousands of statues were uncovered. Conclude this exciting day with a Tang Dynasty show with dumpling dinner. B L D   

  • Day 6: Xian – Guilin

    Wander through the Muslim quarter this morning, including a visit to the Great Mosque. Follow with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist monument. After a local Muslim specialty lunch, fly to Guilin, take an evening guided walk to the night market. B L   

  • Day 7: Guilin – Yangshuo

    Set sail on one of Guilin’s key attractions – the Li River. Disembark midday into quaint Yangshuo. Take the remainder of the day at leisure to explore the cobbled streets and markets. B D  

  • Day 8: Yangshuo – Guilin

    This morning, head out to the country by car or bike and witness local life. Return to town and visit the Cooking School for some hands-on cooking experience. Transfer back to Guilin, where dinner will be a delicious specialty meal of tea-flavoured foods B L D   

  • Day 9:Guilin

    Take a morning city tour to Reed Flute Caves and Elephant Trunk Hill, before transferring to the airport for your onward flight. B L
