Winelands & The Garden Route Self Drive

Great for the independent traveller. Self drive itineraries give you the freedom to stop and visit what you want when you want. The Western and Eastern Cape is ideal for self driving and has some of the most scenic landscapes in South Africa.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Cape Town – Stellenbosch

    Collect your car from an Avis depot and spend the day exploring the wine route. Stay at the historic D’Ouwe Werf Hotel.

  • Day 2: Stellenbosch – Oudtshoorn

    Continue, either via Swellendam, Riversdale and Mossel Bay or along the famous Route 62, to Oudtshoorn, which offers ostrich farm tours and the Cango Caves. Overnight at the Protea Hotel Riempie Estate.  

  • Day 3-4: Oudtshoorn – Knysna

    Travel over the Outeniqua Pass and along the Garden Route to Knysna. Perhaps enjoy a ride on the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe (steam train) and a cruise on the Knysna Lagoon with a visit to Featherbed Nature Reserve. Continue to the Knysna Quays Hotel located on the banks of the famous Knysna Lagoon, close to restaurants, bars and speciality boutiques. Facilities include a pool, restaurant and bar.  

  • Day 5: Knysna – Port Elizabeth

    Drive towards Port Elizabeth stopping at Plettenberg Bay and the Tsitsikamma Forest en route. Drop your car off at Port Elizabeth Airport for your onward flight.
