South Africa is a haven of spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, diverse cultures and first world norms, topped with a healthy and invigorating climate. We visit the highlights, but leave the beaten track to explore the great outdoors.

Itinerary

Overnight stops are at locally owned properties and reserves where extensive conservation and game introduction projects have created truly unique accommodation and surroundings. The tour requires a certain amount of flexibility and an adventurous mentality.

  • Day 1-4: Johannesburg - Mpumalanga

    Depart for Mpumalanga. En-route visit Dullstroom and the Blyde River Canyon. Continue to the Drifters Bush Camp adjacent to the Kruger Park. Spend two nights here enjoying a game walk and drive. Continue to Hazyview for some relaxation, followed by a full day game viewing in the world renowned Kruger National Park.

  • Day 5-6: Mpumalanga - KwaZulu Natal

    Travel south through the Kingdom of Swaziland into Zululand. Stay two nights in a private game reserve adjoining the World Heritage Site of Isimangaliso. Take a game walk in the reserve and a game drive in Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Visit a rural Zulu school.

  • Day 7-9: KwaZulu Natal

    Continue to the Dolphin Coast for one night and enjoy the beach and ocean. Visit Durban and travel to the Drakensberg mountain range. Spend two nights in log cabins hiking and visiting a San rock art site. Pony trekking is also available.

  • Day 10-12: KwaZulu Natal - Karoo

    Cross the Oliviershoek Pass and through the Golden Gate National Park. Stay one night on a farm near the town of Ladybrand. Head into the dry Karoo and spend two nights on a traditional farmstead. Enjoy an extensive walk in the mountainous terrain.

  • Day 13-15: Karoo - Garden Route

    Cross the mighty Outeniqua Mountains to the lush coastal Garden Route area. Stay three nights in log cabins near Knysna, exploring the local area.

  • Day 16-18: Cape Town

    Continue to Cape Town for two nights at the Drifters Inn in Seapoint. Visit Cape Point, Hout Bay, the Waterfront, secluded beaches, a wine farm and many more highlights.
