Drifters: Mozambique Transfrontier Overland

Mozambique offers the explorer a wealth of treasures in the form of untouched wilderness areas, natural beauty, deserted beaches and unique cultural heritage.

Itinerary

  • Day 1-3: Johannesburg – Mpumalanga

    Depart for Mpumalanga. En-route visit the Blyde River Canyon. Stay three nights in this area and enjoy game drives searching for the Big Five in Kruger National Park.

  • Day 4-5: Mpumalanga – Mozambique Transfrontier Park

    Cross the border into Mozambique. Explore the Transfrontier Peace Park. Road conditions are rough and river crossings numerous, guests will be expected to assist in diffi cult sections, but for those seeking true adventure there are few areas that compare with this.

  • Day 6-7: Banhine/Zinave

    Continue across the Limpopo River and into the heart of the Banhine/Zinave wilderness region. Attempt to traverse some of the Zinave Park, once renowned for its abundant wildlife. Few people have visited these areas in the last two decades.

  • Day 8-9: Vilanculos

    Today pass through the many vibrant and bustling villages en-route to Vilanculos, on the shores of the warm Indian Ocean. Enjoy a traditional Dhow trip to the islands.

  • Day 10-12: nhambane

    Moving south to the ancient trading port of Inhambane. Relax, snorkel and soak up the sun.

  • Day 13: Maputo

    Continue to the capital Maputo, which boasts a Latino culture of street cafés, music and bustling markets.

  • Day 14: Elephant Reserve

    Venture back into the bush to explore the Elephant reserve.

  • Day 15-16: Zululand

    Return to South Africa to a private reserve adjoining Lake St Lucia. Enjoy game walks through the forest, experience an open vehicle game drive in Hluhluwe National Park and visit a rural Zulu school.

  • Day 17: Johannesburg

    Tour ends in Johannesburg.
