From Beijing’s Central Station we board the Ulaanbaatar Express for the overnight journey across the Gobi Desert to the Mongolian capital. (B)
In Ulaanbataar, Mongolia’s unique capital, visit the Gandan Khiid Monastery and explore the highlights of the city.
Travel by road to Terelj National Park and stay in a ger camp amongst the rolling hills and mountains.(D)
Return to Ulaanbataar and board your train to Irkutsk in Siberia. (B)
See Irkutsk’s church-lined river embankment, and travel to Lake Baikal, the world’s deepest lake, staying in a lakeside village.

Tour Yekaterinburg, the city founded by Peter the Great in 1723. By the 20th century Yekaterinburg became one of Russia’s largest and most important financial, industrial and cultural centres. See the famous Romanov Church and the Europe/Asia obelisk. (B)(D)

Built on the intersection of two rivers, Kazan has endured a tumultuous history. In 1553 Ivan the Terrible took it from the ‘Golden Horde’ and the city underwent a process of Russification. Today Tatars, the descendants of the Golden Horde, make up about 43% of the population, maintain their own language, culture and history. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Kazan Kremlin. (B)
