In the winter, the refuge is home to thousands of elk, and visitors can choose to take a sleigh ride amongst the wildlife.

The snow coach will climb to scenic overlooks of the Lewis River Canyon and cross the Continental Divide as you continue to the West Thumb Thermal Basin. Continue through the pine forest and on to the remote wilderness of Old Faithful Snow Lodge. The lodge is situated at the edge of one of the largest thermal basins in the park and an easy walk to famed Old Faithful Geyser.
In winter, Old Faithful Snow Lodge offers a truly unique experience. From this snowy haven, you can set out on a variety ofexplorations, either on your own or on aguided adventure. Take a wildlife safari, a snowshoe tour, hike the boardwalk through the thermal basin, explore cross-country ski trails or join a snow coach adventure to the frozen Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Enjoy the wilderness and wild animals that you will find in this remote region of the American West. In the evenings, relax in the lounge with a hot beverage as the snow falls outside.
