Day 1

Minneapolis/St. Paul

The twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are not identical. Minneapolis’ contemporary, sleek skyscrapers contrast with St. Paul’s European-style architecture. Explore the highlights of the cities including Minneapolis’ Nicollet Mall, the Walker Art Center, Guthrie Theater and Sculpture Garden.

Day 3

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Fargo

Cross into North Dakota today as you make your way to Fargo, a community of deeply rooted Scandinavian tradition, friendly people and a budding downtown with tasty food and drink to satisfy even the most discerning palates.

Day 4

Fargo - Bismarck

The capital of North Dakota, Bismarck is a hub of culture and history. Relive the military history of the 1800s at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park and visit the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center. You can retrace the route of Lewis and Clark as they travelled through North Dakota in 1804-1806. Today, over 200 years later, much of the landscape is unchanged.

Day 6

Bismarck - Medora

Named for the 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt National Park memorialises his contribution to conservation. The North Dakota Badlands provide the scenic backdrop to this park. The loop drive provides sightings of buffalo, deer, elk, bighorn sheep, wild horses, mule deer and prairie dog towns. Trail ride, mountain bike or hike through the Badlands on the marked trails or the Maah Daah Hey Trail. This evening, check out the Medora Musical, ‘the rootin’-tootinest, boot-scootinest show in all the West’, or try a Pitchfork Fondue on the Bluffs overlooking town.

Bismarck - Medora

Day 8

Medora - Deadwood

Deadwood, an Old West town, started with the gold rush of 1876. A highlight in Deadwood are the historic tours which depart from Main Street every hour in summer months and tell you the history and legends of characters such as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Poker Alice and Potato Creek Johnny.

Day 9

Deadwood - Rapid City

A busy day of exploring is ahead. Start at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, a massive sculpture of four important US presidents carved into the granite of the Black Hills. Then stop by Crazy Horse Memorial, which is the largest mountain carving taking place in the world at this time. Finally, tour the wildlife loop of Custer State Park where you can watch for bison, pronghorn antelope, deer, elk, prairie dogs, coyotes, mountain goats and bighorn sheep.

Day 10

Rapid City

Travel through Badlands National Park, an almost 99,000 hectare wilderness area formed during the Oligocene age. This fossil-laden sea bed offers spires, pinnacles and wide views. Stop at a few of the scenic overlooks to see the vistas.

Day 11

Rapid City - Sioux Falls

Visit Sioux Falls’ namesake, the Falls of the Big Sioux River at Falls Park. The triple waterfalls are in the centre of the city and include three lookout platforms.

Day 12

Sioux Falls - Minneapolis/St. Paul

End your journey with a shopping spree at the USA’s largest shopping/entertainment centre. You can easily spend several days enjoying the rich variety of stores, restaurants and attractions at Mall of America.
