Discover the undiscovered with Explore’s exclusive new range of unique ‘Limited Collection’ tours

07 May 2012

From hanging out with Pygmies to touring the Falkland Islands. Explore launches an exclusive range of unique, one-off adventures to the most extraordinary and rarely visited places and events on the planet.

Travellers tired of the typical tourist traps or run-of-the-mill tours who are hankering for something a bit more unique from their next overseas break are in luck, with travel company Explore (represented exclusively by Adventure World in New Zealand) launching an exciting new range of unique, one-off adventures that focus on exploring seldom-visited destinations, undiscovered festivals and special events in especially small groups of no more than eight people.

Sure to whet the appetite of adventurous travellers, the first three ‘Limited Collection’ trips to be released by Explore will take travellers to some of the most extraordinary and rarely visited parts of the world.

The 16-day Congo and CAR: A Pioneering Expedition trip is Explore’s most pioneering expedition to date and travels into one of the last remaining wildernesses on the planet.

Departing on January 23, 2013 the tour travels from Brazzaville through the Congo basin to Bangui in the Central Africa Republic.

This one-off wilderness expedition is being billed by Explore as likely to be challenging, possibly life changing and certainly unforgettable. Travelling by road, dugout canoe and on foot through the world’s second largest rainforest in search of the endangered lowland gorilla, travellers are likely to encounter herds of forest elephants, antelopes, leopards, parrots and various species of primates. As well as the wildlife, travellers will also have the rare opportunity to meet indigenous Pygmy communities, who live in harmony with the forest.

Priced from $18,737* per person, this ‘Limited Collection’ trip includes all accommodation (five nights’ forest camps, six nights’ lodges, two nights’ hotels), all meals, tour leader, local and forest guides and all transport (4WD, motorised canoe, traditional wooden canoe).

For those who think this sounds a little too pioneering, Explore’s A Falklanders’ Welcome trip might prove more appealing.

Timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War and hosted by the welcoming islanders themselves, this journey provides a fascinating insight into the lives of a community whose very isolation and proud heritage makes the 30th anniversary landmark all the more poignant. One such host is historian and author, John Smith who will, along with the others, have his own remarkable stories to tell, bringing the past and present of these unique islands vividly to life.

Departing on October 25, 2012 and also including some time to explore Santiago de Chile, this 12-day journey is priced from $7,259* per person and includes all accommodation (five nights’ guesthouses, four nights’ hotels); most meals; the services of local hosts and all transport (4WD, small planes and boats).

The third trip, labelled Tribes and Festivals of Southern China ventures into the mountains of Southern China over 14 days, leaving the well-trodden tourist trail far behind.

Witnessing the traditional lives and centuries-old festivals of the ‘minority’ tribes of the Guizhou region, this visit has been timed to coincide with four exciting and colourful village festivals, including the unusual Tiaohuacha festival of the longhorn Miao (where young people look for friends and potential marriage partners) and the Fire-dragon dance festival, where 20 to 30 firework-laden dragons dance through the streets of the town with people setting off the fireworks along the way.

Departing on February 16, 2013, this tour is priced from $2,385* per person and includes accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis (10 nights’ hotel, two nights’ home stay); two dinners, private transport and the services of expert tour leader, Richard Beal.

Explore plans to release new ‘Limited Collection’ tours every three months.
