Travel from French-speaking Montreal and Quebec City to Bar Harbor, and from there follow the dramatic Atlantic coastline down to Boston. Montreal's culinary delights and liberal, laid-back atmosphere contrast with the unspoilt wilderness of Baxter State Park and the scenic island of Martha's Vineyard. The rocky granite shore around Maine is punctuated with coves and sandy beaches to explore, and there are opportunities to search for wildlife including whales, beavers, black bears, deer and moose.

Arrive into Montreal today to begin your journey.
Discover the highlights of Montréal, the world’s second largest French speaking city, with a city tour. (B)
Transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Québec City. Walk the cobbled streets of Old Town, the Ramparts and perhaps ferry across the St. Lawrence River. (B)
Drive into the Laurentian Mountains to explore Jacques Cartier Park, which is home to moose, bears and deer. Take an easy hike to enjoy the views of surrounding cliffs and the river below.
Take the scenic route from Québec into the U.S. state of Maine. This region contains thousands of ponds and lakes, and many hiking trails across the famous Appalachian Trail and Baxter State Park. Settle into cabins overlooking Millinocket Lake. The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the calm ambience.
Hike one of the 200 trails in the park and then perhaps join an optional wildlife safari. Moose season in New England extends from late May to the end of September.
Drive down the coast to Bar Harbor, home of New England’s only national park.
Bar Harbor lies off Maine’s northeast coast, a short distance from Acadia National Park. Take some time to enjoy the blanketed hills and trails of this natural haven, where pine and birch forests cover the rolling downs, providing an idyllic setting for beaver and bald eagles, whilst the waters off shore provide rich hunting grounds for seals and cetaceans.
Spend time following the trails that crisscross this wilderness, or perhaps enjoy optional activities in the park, such as fishing and whale watching. Transferring onto the mainland, follow the Maine coastline, passing through beautiful old harbour towns that testify to the colonial influx of French and British settlers.
Continuing south, drive through New Hampshire and the coastal city of Boston, steeped in the history of the county’s colonial development and its fight for independence, before heading to Cape Cod.
Take the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard, a beautiful collection of rolling hills and meadows, interspersed with tiny communities of genuine historic importance. The island still retains the elegance and grandeur of those halcyon days amongst its old sea captain’s houses, whilst the influence of its farming stock can be found amongst the colourful ‘gingerbread’ cottages of Oaks Bluff.
Today is free to continue exploring at your leisure.
Travel back to Boston, for a final night to explore this historic city. Walk the Freedom Trail or visit the USS Constitution.
Finish today in Boston.
