Day 1


Arrive Mexico City and check-in to the hotel.

Day 2


Explore Mexico City, including the Zocalo (Main Square) and the Cathedral, built on top of the old Aztec capital. During our tour we will be introduced to one of Mexico’s most famous exports - tacos. Continue to Coyoacan, famous for its coffee and churros culture. (L)

Day 3


Drive north to the mysterious pyramids of Teotihuacan. The Aztecs revered this site as ‘the Place of the Gods’. Continue to Puebla, en route visit a local cactus farmer’s family and learn the many uses of the Nopel cactus.

Day 4


Explore Puebla’s Sweet Street, the city has an entire road dedicated to producing and selling sweets and biscuits, followed by a visit to the former convent of Santa Rosa, the alleged home of the creation of the ‘mole poblano’ which comes in many forms and colours. Continue to Oaxaca, a charming colonial city and try the famous Tlayudas tortillas. (D)

Day 5


Today visit two popular markets, thought to be one of the best places to try the traditional food of Oaxaca. Enjoy lunch at the famed ‘Caldo de Piedra’ restaurant, named after an ancient cooking technique. (L)

Day 6


Enjoy a first-hand experience in a Mexican kitchen when we join a mother and son team for a cooking class. Visit one of the city’s food markets and learn to prepare the local type of mole or how to stuff chillies. (L)

Day 7


Full day’s journey through the mountainous Sierra Madre range to Chiapa. There are plenty of stops to enjoy the beautiful landscape.

Day 8


A scenic drive to San Cristobal de las Casas. Visit San Juan Chamula, where they practice an interesting blend of Catholicism and traditional Mayan beliefs. Continue to Zinacantan, be a guest at a local house and learn how to make an indigenous dish known as tamales. (L)

Day 9


Explore the traditional food market. This evening we will visit a local restaurant where you will have the opportunity to sample the local firewater known as Pox. (D)

Day 10


Travel to the hot jungles of Palenque. En route we will stop by a traditional cacao ranch to learn the chocolate-making process. (L)

Day 11


A guided visit to the famous jungle ruins of Palenque, a fascinating and important Mayan site. Continue to Campeche, en route we will stop at the fishing village of Champoton for a ceviche demonstration. (L)

Day 12


Visit the extraordinary site of Uxmal. Continue to Abala village where we will be invited to enjoy a traditional pibil lunch in a local villager’s house. Pibil means ‘cooked underground’ (L)

Day 13


Drive to the colonial backwater of Izamal. Enjoy lunch at restaurant Kinich- reputed to be one of the best restaurants on the peninsula to enjoy the Yucatecan specialties. (L)

Day 14


Trip ends in Merida.
