Arrive in Kuala Lumpur and make your way to your hotel.
Discover the city’s culinary delights on a food tour exploring different neighbourhoods and savouring delicious treats as you go. In the afternoon visit the holy Hindu site of Batu Caves. (B)
A very early start to make it for sunrise over Kuala Lumpur from nearby Broga Hill. An hour’s drive will take you to the start of the trail for your trek. Earn your breakfast as you reach the first summit in time for the sunrise. If time allows continue to the second peak. Return to the start of the trail to board the bus for the journey to Cameron Highlands. (B)
Today embark on a jungle trek up to Gunung Berembun. This range is protected forest and home to an abundance of birdlife, mosses and lichen. The mountain top is the resting place of a World War II bomber from 1945. Enjoy views of the tea plantations below. (B)(D)
Journey to Taman Negara National Park, one of the oldest remaining rainforests in the world. The park dates back 130 million years and covers over 4300 square kilometres, and shelters rare species such as Malayan tigers, Indian elephants and crab-eating macaques. (B)
Spend the day exploring the park. Begin with a 530m canopy walkway in the treetops. Next, an easy hike takes you up to Teresek Hill for panoramic views over the jungle. Finally, board motorised canoes for a river trip through multiple sets of rapids. (B)
Today trek a 12.5km trail on a less-travelled route through the rainforest, keeping an eye out for wildlife along the way. Enjoy lunch and a swim before the return by trek and boat. (B)(L)
Return to Kuala Lumpur. In the evening head to Skybar for a sundowner. (B)
Fly to Sandakan and transfer to Sepilok. Head straight to the Orang-utan Sanctuary and, if time permits, the Sun Bear Conservation Centre.
An early start today to begin your trek along the Sepilok Laut Trail, home to 350 species of trees and an array of mammals and birds. Later explore the mangrove area via boardwalks looking out for monitor lizards, crabs and macaques. (B)(L)
Transfer to Kinabalu Park. In the evening receive a briefing about the summit trek. (B)(D)
Today’s climb is challenging and takes you through different climatic zones and showcases an enormous variety of plants and animals. Spend the night in dorms at Laban Rata ready for the early morning climb. (B)(L)(D)
Wake at 2am to begin the summit climb. Tremendous views await as the early morning unfolds. Return to the base and board the bus to your beach resort in Kota Kinabalu. (B)(L)
Today is free to relax and unwind after your trekking. (B)
