Day 1

Hong Kong

You will meet your guide on arrival, transfer and check-in to your hotel. Today is at your leisure. We highly recommend our travellers book a few pre nights accommodation in the nearby Macau to experience the Portuguese Old Town, the exciting Casino area and the glorious architecture. Macau is located a 1 hour fast ferry ride away from the Hong Kong international airport.

Day 2

Hong Kong

Today you will take a scenic journey around the islands of Hong Kong on the famous passenger ferry service, the Star Ferry. Later in the day, ride the Peak Tram to the top of Victoria Peak for a bird's eye view of the city, take a British era tram through Causeway Bay, take the Central-Mid Levels Escalator, explore the markets of Kowloon and soak up the incensed air at Man Mo Temple. (B)

Day 3

Hong Kong - Kaili

This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Guiyang. On arrival, travel to Kaili and experience a group of ethnic village markets clustered around the town. Kaili is a city of music, as its well-deserved nicknames bear witness. Kaili is alternately referred to as "The Homeland of Music", "An Ocean of Song and Dance", and "The City of Festivals", all of which reflects the city's role as the center of Miao culture. Free time to explore the town on arrival. Day 4

Kaili

The area surrounding Kaili in the Guizhou Province exuded tradition; it’s China at its most authentic and at times it’s most eye-popping. Today we visit the tribal villages of Landge, with its traditional Miao architecture and cobbled streets, Xijaing known for its embroidery and silver ornaments and the beautiful stone bridge village of Shiqiao. Day 5

Kaili - Zhenyuan

This morning you’ll travel to Zhenyuan. The ancient Miao town of Zhenyuan has a history of over 800 years and its two city walls still guard the ancient Fu and Wei cities on either side of Wuyang River. On arrival explore the old town, take a cruise on the Wuyang River and visit the Qinglong Caves. (B)

Day 6

Zhenyuan - Fenghuang

Leaving early, you’ll travel via Hongjiang to Fenghuang. On arrival in Hongjiang, explore the maze like alleys and former opium shops of Hongjiang Old town before reaching Fenghuang. With green waters, ancient walls, stilted houses, and lantern-lit streets, Fenghuang (Phoenix Town) is a beautifully preserved ancient town guaranteed to enchant. (B)

Day 7

Fenghuang

Today take part in a guided tour of the town to learn about the customs and culture of Fenghuang's Tujia and Miao minorities. Stroll the atmospheric streets and wander down winding back alleys where stilted wooden houses project over the water on a walking tour of this riverside town, stopping at local diners, silver shops and historical residences.  Free afternoon. (B)

Day 8

Fenghuang - Zhangjiajie

Leaving early, travel via Dehang to Zhangjiajie. In a seductive riverine setting overlooked by towering, other-worldly karst peaks, the Miao hamlet of Dehang offers impressive views of the picturesque countryside, terraced fields and verdant valleys. Tour the area before travelling onto Zhangjiajie. On arrival in Zhangjiajie, take a cable car to the top of the Mt. Huangshizhai for impressive views of the surrounding karst mountains. (B)

Day 9

Zhangjiajie

Today you will experience one of our highlights of our trip - the spectacular Zhangjiajie National Park, with its soaring peaks, mist topped karst mountains and breathtaking views.). Take the Bailong Elevator to Yuanjiejie, home to the famous Hallelujah Mountain from the film Avatar. After stopping for lunch we continue our trek in the Yuanjiajie section of the park (2.5 hours). Return to Zhangjiajie town late in the day. (B)

Day 10

Zhangjiajie -Yangtze River Cruise

Late in the morning transfer to Yichang. On arrival, a guide will transfer you to the pier to board your 5 star Presidential or Victoria Yangtze River Cruise. Spend the first of 4 nights on board the cruiseship. The Yangzi River region is one of the most industrialised and rapidly developing areas in China and cruising this vast river between Yichang and Chonqqing will give you an insight into this unique part of the country. (B)(D)

Day 11

Yangtze River Cruise

This morning your ship travels to the monstrous and highly controversial Three Gorges Dam, which required relocating 1.5 million people, and submerging 13 cities. Whatever your views, one can only marvel at the scale of this engineering feat. Take time to watch the changing scenery from the deck, the cosy lounge or your private cabin balcony. In the evening attend the Captain’s welcome cocktail party. (B)(L)(D)

Day 12

Yangtze River Cruise

This morning you'll sail through the Qutang Gorge, the first of the three Yangtze gorges and famous for dramatic scenery. Your ship docks at Wushan for an excursion to the Lesser Three Gorges and later continues through Wu Gorge where the ship is dwarfed by the imposing cliffs. Last of the three gorges is Xiling Gorge, the longest and most beautiful of the three. A highlight of the trip is watching these huge ships go through the five level ship lock, several ships at a time. (B)(L)(D)

Day 13

Yangtze River Cruise

Today make a land excursion to Fengdu, also known as the 'The City of Ghosts'. The town is just that, inundated in 2009, its residents were moved across the river to live. The site combines the cultures of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism with the mystique of ghosts, as portrayed by the sculptures of demons and devils. (B)(L)(D)

Day 14

Yangtze River Cruise - Chengdu

This morning transfer from the boat at Changshou to the Chonqqing railway station for the 1st class train journey to Chengdu. Chengdu has preserved plenty of its traditional flavour and visitors can still find famous tea houses, numerous markets and some of the most interesting food in China. If you like it hot then this is the place to be as Sichuan food is known the world over for its spicy flavours. (B)

Day 15

Chengdu

At 8am, visit the Giant Panda Breeding Chengdu Research Base to witness the conservation efforts being made to save this endearing endangered species. There are about 50 giant and red pandas at the base, and you may even be lucky enough to see newborns taking their first steps in the nursery. Return to Chengdu and visit the Wenshu Temple, relax in the Heming teahouse in People’s Park and travel south to the town of Leshan to viist the world’s largest buddha. (B)(L)

Day 16

Chengdu

Transfer to the airport and fly out of Chengdu. (B)
