Depart Chengdu for Leshan, home to the Giant Buddha, measuring 71m high. Journey on to the UNESCO Heritage Site of Emeishan where you will spend the night at the foot of the mountain. A famous Sichaun hotpot dinner awaits tonight. (L)(D)
Mount Emeishan is one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China and still a major pilgrimage place. The hike is about seven hours and the circuit covers the temples of Fuhu, Leiyin, Shengshui and also Qingyin Pavillion, all the way to Xiangfeng Temple.
Start early to begin your hike to Jiuling Knoll and Elephant Pool, up to the Golden Summit. The hike is again around seven hours, and it’s possible to take a cable car for the last part. Overnight is at Golden Summit. (B)(L)(D)
Wake up to a spectacular sunrise and Gongga Mountain – the highest Sichuan peak. You will also encounter stunning views of Wanfo Peak which towers over the whole site. A bus will take you back to the entrance where your driver waits to take you back to Chengdu. (B)(L)
