Great Bear Lodge is located in the Great Bear Rainforest, home to a magnificent concentration of coastal grizzly bears. Conservationists consider it a rare jewel as it is one of the few complete and relatively intact ecosystems remaining on earth. Stretching over 8 million acres, twice the size of Africa’s Serengeti, this remote coastal rainforest is home to several threatened species and one of the last strongholds of the grizzly bear in the world.

Day 1

Vancouver - Port Hardy - Great Bear Lodge

Depart Port Hardy by floatplane and journey to the spectacular Great Bear Lodge, travelling over breathtaking scenery and the wildlife rich waters of Queen Charlotte Sound, home to orca, gray and humpback whales. Upon arrival at the lodge, check in and join the group for your first wildlife viewing session. There are a number of different viewing sites so you’ll be taken to one where bears have been the most active. The first time you see a grizzly bear emerge from the forest is something you’ll never forget. Return to the lodge in the evening and enjoy a gourmet dinner followed by a presentation by the resident biologist. The floating Great Bear Lodge has eight bedrooms and a common area where you are able to relax and where you will listen to the presentations from wildlife biologists. The wind and solar powered lodge strives for a low impact on the surrounding environment. Natural wood decks surround the lodge and are a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the scenery. (D)
