Depart Ottawa for Pond Inlet. This evening the expedition leader and Inuit guide will give a briefing and perform a gear check. Later, enjoy an authentic cultural presentation of Inuit throat singing, drum dancing and storytelling.
Travelling by Inuit-style qamutik, you'll experience the exhilaration of gliding across the ice. Today's journey may include stops at hanging glaciers, abandoned whaling stations or hunting cabins. The destination is our Arctic Safari Camp, a few kilometres from the ice edge.
The next few days will include trips to the floe edge and excursions to other attractions in the area. Expect to see icebergs and playful seals poking their heads up out of the water. Perhaps the greatest highlight is observing the variety of Arctic wildlife in their natural habitat. On the floe edge you will likely see narwhals, bowhead whales, polar bears, seals and possibly walrus and beluga whales. Bylot Islan's uplands are home to Arctic foxes, collared lemmings, snowy owls and gyrfalcons. We may also visit Bylot Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary, where over 200,000 birds nest.
