Day 1


Arrive in Reykjavik where you can take a guided overview of the old town or choose to explore the Blue Lagoon. (L)(D)

Day 2

Reykjavik - Kangerlussuaq

Fly by chartered aircraft to Greenland. Embark National Geographic Explorer at the head of Kangerlussuaq Fjord, a picturesque waterway. (B)(L)(D)

Day 3

Greenland's West Coast & Sisimiut

Dozens of deep fjords carve into Greenland's west coast, many with glaciers fed by the ice cap that covers 80% of the country. Search for humpback and minke whales before visiting Sisimiut, a former whaling port. (B)(L)(D)

Day 4

Baffin Island

William Baffin first ventured here in the 15th century to search for the Northwest Passage. Stretch your legs on good hiking trails at Qikiqtarjuaq. Visit Coronation Fiord where 1500 metre cliffs soar near Coronation Glacier and stop at Niaqurnak Point, a former Inuit camp where walrus haul outs can be found. Stop at Isabella Bay, an important marine habitat for bowhead whales. (B)(L)(D)

Day 7

Canadian High Arctic

Search for ringed seals, Arctic foxes, walruses and polar bears, as well as beluga and bowhead whales. You may even see the elusive narwhal. (B)(L)(D)

Day 10

Devon Island

From the 1200s until late in the 1800s, Inuit were living in these regions hunting caribou and muskoxen. Explore Philpots Island, a geological structure consisting of ancient red granite. (B)(L)(D)

Day 11

Ellesmere Island

Heading further northward, make your way up the remote east coast of Ellesmere Island. Cruise along scenic Smith Bay bordered by a steep wall of mountains with a glacial ice tongue which pours down the mountains on either side. (B)(L)(D)

Day 13

Farther North

Explore to 80N and hopefully beyond, if the ice allows. Chart where the ice is impenetrable and where there are leads guiding the ship to exciting discoveries. (B)(L)(D)

Day 15

Exploring Northwest Greenland

The area north of Qaanaaq has the most interesting exploration history of Greenland. Visit the small community of Etah, the northern-most habitation in West Greenland, to interact and learn about the people of the Far North. This region is one of the most beautiful and unexplored parts of all of Greenland: glaciers, fjords, inlets and islands, as well as wildlife galore. (B)(L)(D)

Today you are back in familiar waters, stopping at Qilakitsoq, where a collection of mummies dating to 1475 was discovered in 1972. (B)(L)(D)

Greenland's West Coast

Kangerlussuaq - Reykjavik

Disembark in Kangerlussuaq in the morning followed by a tour and lunch. Fly by private charter to Reykjavik. (B)(L)(D)
