Upon arrival, pick up your car and check-in to your hotel. Anchorage is a vibrant city on the edge of the Alaskan wilderness - parks, trails, and moose all make for a unique setting, and there are plenty of opportunities for exploring.
Drive north to Talkeetna, a turn-of the 20th-century gold-mining centre which has retained its early Alaskan flavour. Log cabins, a roadhouse and clapboard storefronts line the dirt streets, colourful locals and bush pilots stroll the wooden sidewalks, while Mount McKinley looms overhead.
Today, depart early for Denali National Park. You’ll have time to participate in optional excursions such as rafting, glacier landing flightseeing and hiking, or visit the Visitor Centre and Sled Dog Kennels
During your journey into Denali National Park, your experienced driver-guide will help in the search for wildlife. When you reach Denali Backcountry Lodge you can try panning for gold, before returning via a flightseeing tour in a small bush plane. (L)
