Responsible Tourism

At Adventure World we promote responsible travel to areas that conserves the natural environment and improves the well-being of those indigenous people.

We believe that responsible tourism promotes positive cultural and environmental ethics and practices.

One such example is our choice of the Kapawi Ecolodge in the southern Ecuadorian basin on the Pastaza River, one of the areas with the highest biodiversity on the planet. The Kapawi Project was founded in 1993 as a unique community-based tourism concept in co-ownership with the Achuar Indian community.

Understanding the potential harm that can come from promoting tourism through many of the delicate environments in which we operate is reflected on our ideology of 'leave no trace' tourism.

Working with our overseas operators we aim to promote responsible, sustainable tourism.

Volunteer Tours

Volunteer style tours are designed as a way to give back to the people and make a difference in the places we visit on our adventures.

Experience true cultural immersion by working alongside local people to improve basic living conditions through hands-on volunteer projects.

Our responsible land operators:

Acacia Africa:
Acacia supports a wealth of projects that protect and manage Africa's natural environments, wildlife and cultures. Amongst these projects are the East African Wildlife Association and the 'Spirit of Youth' township programs in Soweto and Cape Town.

AmaDablam Adventures:
As a local company with travel in Nepal, Tibet, India & Bhutan, AmaDablam are committed to ensuring that local people benefit from our success-while you benefit from our expertise. Rural villages have either electricity, an ambulance, or clean drinking water. There are porter sheds at a remote Base Camp, a handicapped children's facility is self sustaining and a school in the mountains for porters' children. They pioneered the use of kerosene stoves on treks, and co-founded an eco-tourism training organisation.

Dragoman Overland:
Award Winner AITO (Association of Independent Tour Operators) Responsible Tourism Award. The award was given because of our company wide commitment to Responsible Tourism, but especially for the hands on community projects that we have been funding, such as the Inca Trail & Quechua Community Project and the Kariandusi School Trust.

Explore Worldwide:
Award Winner AITO (Association of Independent Tour Operators) Responsible Tourism Award Explore believes passionately in responsible travel and has promoted it right from the start, 25 years ago. Explore also has 3 star responsible tourism rating - the highest level achievable.

Cruise West:
Cruise West adheres to the highest standards of environmental responsibility.  Our philosophy of travel is, “Take only photographs, and leave only our footprints behind.”  We are traveling in some of the most pristine environments on the planet, and wish both to be good citizens and to maintain the quality of our destinations for future travelers.

Trek America:
As founding members of "Tourism Cares for Tomorrow" Trek America operate tour programs that create a positive impact on the lands they visit. The vast majority of itineraries are led by local guides and use local suppliers. Trek America are also in the process of reducing carbon emissions of their vehicles.
Headwater:
Our holidays are 'green' by their very nature - walking or cycling at your own pace is an excellent way to explore the countryside with minimal environmental effects. We take you to places which almost never see any foreign visitors (other than you), so we take some trouble to keep the Headwater 'footprint' small, and not have too many people in the same place at the same time.

Tauck World Discovery:
Tauck World Discovery, in collaboration with the Tauck Foundation, is actively involved with national and international charities through Tauck 'World of Giving.' Tauck World Discovery has been an active and innovative supporter of America's National Parks. Their Destination Grants program provides funding for preservation at sites visited by their tours. This program began in 2000 when Tauck pledged $250,000 to the restoration of ancient cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park.

G.A.P Adventures:
Being a responsible eco tour operator is at the heart of what G.A.P Adventures is all about. From the start, G.A.P has been committed to offering low-impact tours that benefit traveller and host alike. Working with local communities and individuals to develop sustainable tourism opportunities.
