Kenya & Tanzania

Kenya is the heart of East Africa and has a great diversity of landscapes including open savannah grasslands, the spectacular Rift Valley and snow-clad Mount Kenya. In rural areas the Maasai and Samburu tribes people co-exist harmoniously with the wildlife.

Due to the proximity of the Equator, Kenya has no defined seasons. The coastal areas are tropical but tempered by monsoon winds. Nairobi has a pleasant climate throughout the year due to its altitude. The rainy season is between March and June with "short" rains during October and November.

Tanzania is a kaleidoscope of landscapes and diversity with a balmy climate, offering a rich tapestry of culture and fantastic game viewing. Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Dar es Salaam, and Zanzibar all conjure up exotic images of this country.

When to go:

Kenya and Tanzania can be a year round destination with excellent game viewing. Peak season is generally January to March when the weather is hot and dry and animals congregate at waterholes.  April to June and October to December are less popular due to the rain and floods however this does not usually hinder game viewing or getting about.

Staff Experience

I've just returned from amazing Namibia. A highlight of this region are the Sossusvlei sand dunes.

These monumental dunes (the highest of which is 325m) were formed by multi directional winds blowing sand from the Kalahari Desert and the colours and forms are simply breathtaking.

Exhilarated we raced to the bottom of the dunes to a salt pan and back to our vehicle where we enjoyed a picnic breakfast, before heading back to our lodge for a relaxing afternoon.
